Food4Thought: Fellowship with God at Church

One day I read an article my aunt posted about a note to worship leaders and that really got me thinking. Many Christians go to church, worship with their heart, looking at the screen for the words of the songs that are sung by the worship team on stage. Nothing wrong with that. Some become in awe with the people on stage like one would be at a concert idolizing their idols. But I think when we focus on the worship team and whatever that is in the background be it visual effects or lightings, etc; do we actually lose out on really connecting with God with all our hearts and minds? I think so.

All the noise and flashing lights are all distractions! ‘Watching the band’ is also a distraction! I used to focus on the words and occasionally the psychedelic visuals on the screen trying to remember the songs that are being sung each week and be immerse into the hypnotic visual at church and although I was able to connect through those words and find revelation through them when God works through them; I find that it’s very shallow compared to what I have been doing the past two weeks at church as an experiment.

Little did I know the result was amazing. I prepare myself to focus only on Jesus and nothing else. Working on my fellowship with Him at church like how I would at home. I can personally really feel the difference with the connection I can make with God as opposed to focusing on whatever’s on stage with the flashing visuals on the background of my church’s worship stage. I was once wooed by it, too. But God really convicted me and brought me to a place to see the importance of really focusing on HIM with all my heart, mind and soul. And we definitely can’t do that by opening our eyes and staring at those beautiful worshippers (or inside you could be complaining and cringing on off tune worshippers) on stage or the visuals that can’t stop you from looking at them.

I’ve kept my eyes closed throughout worship time and allow myself to be connected to Jesus and be immersed in God’s presence and REALLY COMMUNICATE with Him! Focusing on Him with my mind and heart; listening to the words that are uttered by the worship team on stage when needed, sing along when I know the words or rather prompted to focus on them. It has fed my soul so much by adopting such simple habit. It’s been amazing! It has really allowed me to connect with Him at a much deeper level and be moved by Him in Spirit! It also helps me pray according to his will. Praising him from my heart and soul. I believe that is what God wants! The personal attention you give him. I encourage you to try it.

Let the worshippers on stage worship God their way and you your way. What is your way and their way? I don’t see the difference. The focus should not be on MAN but GOD! When worshippers on stage sing; they should be focusing on God! And let God use their gifts to minister to the people in the congregation! Vice versa, the congregation should focus on God and not the people or things on stage! Imagine how fruitful would the fellowship with God be for the whole church!!!

1 Corinthians 12:12-13
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body – Jews or Greeks, slaves or free – and all were made to drink of one Spirit

God wants you to fellowship with Him directly! How many of you are doing it? Going to church worship is not like going to a concert! It’s serious business! The goal is to connect to God as a family in the Body of Christ – the church! And the head of the church is Jesus! Each member of the congregation is a member of the Body of Christ. All must work together to bring big impact to the Body of Christ especially in the spiritual realm where it is unseen!

Ephesians 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood (humans), but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places

I’d love to hear about your experience. Give it a go!

Food4Thought: The Bible in 366 – Small (Matthew 13:31)

“God’s kingdom is like a pine nut that a farmer plants. It is quite small as seeds go, but in the course of years it grows into a huge pine tree, and eagles build nests in it.” -Matthew 13:31 (MSG)

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed. Someone took the seed and planted it in a field. It is the smallest of all your seeds. But when it grows, it is the largest of all garden plants. It becomes a tree. Birds come and rest in its branches.” -Matthew 13:31 (NIRV)

18/366-Small

A shepherd boy.
Some fishermen.
Five loaves and two fish.
A teenage girl.
A crude manger.
A blood-stained cross.
Mustard seeds and pine nuts.

God does indeed seem to enjoy choosing the small and commonplace. And growing them into something far greater than anyone could ever have imagined.

“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. He chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the things of this world that are common and looked down on. He chose what is not considered to be important to do away with what is considered to be important. So no one can brag to God.

Because of what God has done, you belong to Christ Jesus. He has become God’s wisdom for us. He makes us right with God. He makes us holy and sets us free.” -1 Cor 1:27-30

Food4Thought: The Bible in 366 – Family (Matthew 12:50)

“Obedience is thicker than blood. The person who obeys my heavenly Father’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” -Matthew 12:50

17/366 – Family

In one sentence, Jesus cuts through the lines that divide us – race, creed, culture, blood.

And He helps us see that we’re all the same. We’re all created by the same God for the same purpose.

The moment we realise we’re all connected with the same calling, the same desires, and the same goal to work towards, we become family.

Jesus draws the circle of what family and community mean so much larger than blood ties.

Why do we have terms like ‘soul mates’ and ‘kindred spirits’? Because we know that our real family, the people we can truly be ourselves around, has little to do with blood. They are the ones who get us, who not only truly understand our hearts and dreams, but also share the same.

Reflection: Matthew 21:43-44

Food4Thought:
This particular verse intrigued me this week…

Matthew 21:43-44 (ESV)
Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits. And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him

Food4Thought: Righteousness & Kindness (Proverbs 21:21)

Proverbs 21:21
Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor

Food4Thought:
What is your heart pursuing? Worldly or Godly? The very thing that occupies your mind the most is probably what’s harboring in your heart.

Is(Are) there an area(s) in your life you need to work on to be more righteous or kind? Allow God to work in you so you may bear good fruit.

Luke 6:43-44
A good tree doesn’t produce rotten fruit, and a rotten tree doesn’t produce good fruit. Each tree is known by its fruit.

Food4Thought: The Bible in 366 – Wisdom (Proverbs 2:6-8)

“God gives out Wisdom free,
is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding.
He’s a rich mine of Common Sense for those who live well,
a personal bodyguard to the candid and sincere.
He keeps his eye on all who live honestly,
and pays special attention to his loyally committed ones.” –Proverbs 2:6-8 (MSG)

16/366-Wisdom

This is probably one of my favorite passages in the whole Bible. And The Message translation is one of my favorite translations of it.

The entire first paragraph is filled with verbs – with calls to action:

‘take to heart’
‘collect my counsels’
‘guard them’
‘make Insight your priority’
‘search for it’

To sum it up, finding Wisdom, or Insight, is a pursuit. A choice. It is something we have to deliberately seek. It is not something that ‘just happens’ or comes with age or experience. Growing old doesn’t always equal growing up, and making mistakes doesn’t automatically mean making the choice to learn from them.

In the second paragraph the writer gets straight to the point:

“God gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding.”

Which basically means God’s Wisdom is free and accessible for all. It’s not some obscured, mystical secret only for the elite or super-holy. God is plainspoken – ie easy to understand. The Proverbs are filled with simple truths about honouring your parents and living with common sense. We all can understand those truths and they make sense even to the non-religious. But easy to understand doesn’t equal easy to do.

“He’s a rich mine of Common Sense,” the writer continues, but not without adding a clause: “for those who live well.” For those who CHOOSE Wisdom. Who CHOOSE common sense. Who do all the things in the first paragraph and purposefully seek out “what’s true and fair”.

These are the people, he then goes on to say in the last paragraph, who “find all the good trails”, who have Wisdom and Knowledge as close companions, who will “keep you from making wrong turns, or following the bad directions of those who are lost themselves.”

I’m reminding myself that life is not a game of luck, or chance. It’s a choice. The choices we make every day say a lot about who we are and where we’re headed, and I’m reminded to make my choices with care.

Food4Thought: The Bible in 366 (Psalm 9:1-2)

“Lord, I will praise you with all my heart.
I will tell about all of the miracles you have done.
I will be glad and full of joy because of you.
Most High God, I will sing praise to you.” -Psalm 9:1-2

15/366-Praise

I don’t know if it’s an Asian ‘paiseh’ thing, but I’m quite reluctant to publicly ‘tell about all of the miracles’ He has done in my life.

It almost feels like bragging. Seems to go against the whole idea of humility. What about all the other people who don’t get blessed in the same way? Why should I blow my trumpet about all the amazing things God has blessed me with?

Then I realised it was more of an ego thing. I’m afraid or I hold back from telling everyone how amazing God has been to me because I know, I know… I don’t deserve it. I know people have every right to look at me and think well, what’s so great about her that she’s gets to have all this?

And I know the simple answer is nothing. There’s nothing special or great about me. The only thing I have to boast about is His grace. And boasting about that makes me look kinda vulnerable. Kinda dependent.

The reason I can easily tell others about the ‘reasonable’ or ‘logical’ accomplishments I’ve achieved, but I hold back from telling everyone about the are-you-kidding-me, once-in-a-lifetime, miraculous things… is simply an ego thing.

I needed to remind myself today that keeping quiet about the amazing things God has blessed me with is NOT being humble but actually, is being quite egoistic. There more abundantly I’m blessed beyond what I deserve, the more mind-boggling such blessings are, the more I should tell everyone about them.

Because it is the ultimate statement of dependency – it’s saying that all of this makes no sense to me, I don’t deserve it, but out of His grace He has showered blessing upon me anyway and I am so thankful I want to tell everyone about it.

Reflection: God’s Truth (Bible Reading)

When I first got saved, I read through the whole bible once or actually I think twice (Genesis – Revelation) and little did I understand. But as I continue to read and after a year; I am learning to see new truths I’ve never seen before and things are slowly making more sense to me. I have yet grasp everything and I doubt I’ll ever be till the end of day and that’s the beauty of it! Everyday I learn new truths from God! The revelation in His words are pure and beautiful. The bigger picture makes sense as He continues to reveal nuggets of truths. I love it! Thank you Papa!

Know that God is with you! Never let go of that LIFELINE!
